Introduction to Competencies

Since the early 1970s, competencies have been an important part of the professional work world. Competencies are a professional's measurable or observable knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors (KSABs) critical for successful performance in his or her work. As all professional fields, pastoral ministry also has core competencies that pastors must possess it they are to be successful in church leadership and ministry.

The Georgia-Cumberland Conference of Seventh-day Adventists in conjunction with the Southern Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists has set forth seven core pastoral competencies that pastors should master by the end of their ministerial internship prior to ordination. Below you will find these 6 core competencies for pastoral ministry. In each competency area, I have uploaded research, documents, pictures, and projects that outline my various experiences that have led to the development of the 6 core pastoral competencies in my professional ministry and personal life.
